About Reed K. Scott
Reed Scott is the principal in the Law Offices of Reed K. Scott, a law firm focusing on tax planning, tax controversy, and asset protection. The Law Offices are located next to the Stoneridge Mall in Pleasanton California, and at 2255 Contra Costa Blvd, in Pleasant Hill, California.
Reed began developing his expertise in tax while obtaining his Master's Degree in Finance. After graduating in the top 10% of his Law School Class, he entered the L.L.M Program in Taxation at Golden Gate University School of Law. While in the L.L.M. Tax Program, Reed found that he had a particular interest in asset protection and tax minimization strategies. Reed has the unique ability to translate complex tax issues into concepts that have meaning for each client. Because of his financial background, Reed does more than just help clients reduce and minimize taxes. For those clients that are interested in a lifetime plan of wealth management, he will also work with them to develop a plan for wealth accumulation, management, and asset protection.
Education
Reed graduated with Honors from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Business and Economics. He obtained his Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Western Michigan University where he was honored for academic excellence by induction into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honorary Fraternity. After a successful career as an entrepreneur and business executive, Reed graduated with Honors from Golden Gate University School of Law, and has continued to study and teach in advanced areas of tax and asset protection.
Experience
Reed is a member of the California and American Bar Associations, and the estate, trusts, probate and tax sections of the California State Bar.
Community
Reed has served as a Judicial Extern for the Alameda County Probate Court, as well as a volunteer for the Contra Costa Probate Court. Reed is an accomplished speaker and lecturer and provides free ongoing continuing education to CPAs, Financial Planners and other professionals in the areas of tax planning, retirement planning, asset protection, and business formation and succession planning.
Personal
Reed lives in Danville with his wife and daughter, and they enjoy traveling and seeing the world together. When Reed isn’t traveling with his family, he enjoys golfing, hiking, swimming, and fishing.
About Peggy B. Nicholson
Peggy Nicholson is an associate at the Law Offices of Reed K. Scott, where she helps individuals plan for the future, protect their wealth and reach peace of mind.
Background and Education
Peggy Nicholson’s French and American legal background allow a great diversity of representation in the area of estate planning and tax. A native of France, she has earned advanced law degrees in France and in the United States. She first graduated with honors from the law school of University Paris-X Nanterre, France. She also obtained a law degree from University Paris I Pantheon-La Sorbonne in European and international law. After completing a Master of Business Administration at the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota, she worked in the area of tax, gaining valuable experience in representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service and the Franchise Tax Board. While working, she obtained her first L.L.M in US Legal Studies from Golden Gate University School of Law. As she deeply enjoys helping families plan for the future and the security of their loved ones, she has decided to concentrate her career on estate planning and tax. She is currently enrolled in the L.L.M in tax program at Golden Gate University Law School. She joined the Law Offices of Reed K. Scott where her practice focuses in counseling in the fields of tax, estate planning, trust administration, and probate.
Experience
Prior to joining the Law Offices of Reed K. Scott, Peggy gained valuable experience in the area of tax controversy. She has helped numerous taxpayers, individuals and small businesses, settle their disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and the Franchise Tax Board helping them regain peace of mind and positively move on with their lives. Her representation included participating in tax examinations, amending tax returns, negotiating abatement of penalties, resolving notices of deficiencies, and preparing Offers in Compromise and Installment Agreements. Her knowledge of tax preparation and tax representation provide the necessary tools to not only help in solving tax issues, but also to tackle the preparation of estate and gift tax returns.
Community
Peggy is dedicated in helping families secure their future. She also enjoys assisting her community and has provided tax preparation help for needy individuals through Tax Aid for the last two years.
Personal
On a more personal note, Peggy enjoys a close marriage with her husband, Mark. As the mother of a young child, Peggy understands the necessity to have a plan in place in case the unthinkable happen to her and her husband. Choosing someone to care for your children is often the toughest part in estate planning; it is also the most important, as you want to make sure of who will raise your children, and who you do not want to raise your children. Peggy can help you design the legal documents, including detailed guardianship instructions, which will bring you peace of mind.
